Your doctor’s aim is to bring your blood pressure within the healthy range of 90/60 and 120/80 and keep it there with long-term treatment plans.
After a preliminary assessment or triage to determine the best way forward, your doctor will look at your medical history, diet, exercise levels, and any causes of stress. They may also do lab tests to check cholesterol levels, kidney, liver, and thyroid functions, and heart activity.
If you smoke, they will guide you on ways to quit and may also direct you to resources to help you cut down on alcohol consumption.
Your treatment plan will include guidance on nutrition and exercise. If necessary, you will be prescribed medication. If your doctor requires a daily BP check, they may give you a Remote Patient Monitoring device.
As high blood pressure can lead to other serious illnesses, your doctor will assess your overall health regularly to catch comorbidities as early as possible.
Several drugs are used to manage blood pressure. Your doctor may prescribe medication to either raise or lower yours to keep it in the healthy range.
Your doctor may provide you with a remote blood pressure monitor. This will send readings as you take them directly to your doctor’s computer.
